At this time, MSU recycling can only accept mattresses for disposal from MSU departments. Mattresses are usually composed of a combination of materials which must be separated during the recycling process before they can be made into new products. Example materials include polyurethane foam, cotton, fabric ticking, cotton shoddy, coconut coir, steel, and wood.

Reuse Options

Lightly used mattresses can be repurposed through the MSU Surplus Store. Departments wishing to send mattresses to MSU Surplus for reuse should submit a Pick Up Request Form (PURF).

Where to Recycle Mattresses

Departments with mattresses which cannot be reused should submit a service request to have their used mattresses recycled.
